from Poland: Great moments in Grado (and in the whole project)
On 20th to 26th May 2012 there was a visit of six teachers from Czeladź in Grado in Spain. During the visit the teachers from Spain, Italy, Poland and England summarised all the activities that were realised in the project. They indicated the advantages of taking part in this project, eg. new experiences, abilities, the knowledge about the culture, the educational systems, traditions, customs and historical monuments. Last activities were also summed up: the exhibition of recycled toys, the survey, photo frames, recycled paper and the article about the whole project.
During the visit in May Spanish partners organised meetings with students, teachers and parents that were to integrate people and exchange information. Students showed their vocal and artistic talents. During the assembly representatives from all countries presented their students, the educational system and schools. Each country showed a Power Point Presentation.
Guests were also in the Townhall of Grado. Teachers got some publications, maps, souvenirs connected with culture, traditions and nature of Asturias region. We had some trips: to the mountains, to Gijon at the ocean, to Asturias forests- to meet some bears.
Our students were really interested in all the tasks realised within the framework of the project. They increased their language competence, got the knowledge about partner countries. The tasks integrated students from four countries and encouraged them to learn languages, to travel and to communicate within Europe.

Thank you and Goodbye
We have all had a wonderful time working with you all. The last meeting in Spain was wonderful although everyone was a little sad to say goodbye as the project is now coming to a close. We hope everyone has enjoyed the project and learnt more about themselves and Europe during the work we have shared. We wish you all well and hope we can stay in contact to strengthen the links we have made between our schools. Love from everyone in England

An exhibition- from Poland
23rd
of April was very important at our school. It was the Day of the Earth which is
organised every year. We had an
exhibition of recycled works and we watched a Power Point Presentation about
the environment. We also took part in many competitions: we drew some posters,
answered some questions and solved many puzzles.
We
had a lot of works on our exhibition:
utensils, instruments, toys and animals. It was a great experience for us, we
liked it very much. We decided to take care about our planet to be green, clean
and beautiful.

London 2012
Today we are getting sporty to celebrate Sport Relief. this gives our students the chance to run a mile (about 1.6 KM) to raise money for Sport relief. Sport relief helps people in Africa and the UK.
We have also just been awarded 3 tickets for the Olympics. We need to find a fair way to give these out to the students. 3 Children will get an opportunity to watch an Olympic football match on the 25th July. Any ideas on the fairest way to share the tickets would be gratefully received.

I CANTI DELLA MERLA A SAN BASSANO, GRUMELLO E CROTTA D’ADDA
SONGS OF THE HEN BLACKBIRD
The last three days in January are
called “the days of the hen blackbird”. According to the tradition, they’re the
coldest day of the year.
A legend says that a blackbird wanted
to find shelter for its babies (they had white feathers) in a chimney. They
came out the first day of february, looking all black because of the soot.
Another legend tells the story of a
white bird which gathered food to stay hidden for the whole month of January,
which was once 28 days long.
The last day she came out of the nest
to sing and the month of January, angry, borrowed three days from February and
scattered snow storms, heavy showers and wind on the earth. So the bird stayed
other three days in a chimney and came out looking all black forever.
They say that if the last three
days of January are cold, spring will be beautiful, if they are mild, spring
will be delayed.
People living on the plains around
Cremona, Brescia, Parma and Lodi used to sing beautiful popular songs to favour
the harvest and a good spring. While singing, they produced loud noises and
sounds hitting pans and buckets to scare the winter away.
Nowadays people still gather on the
banks of the river Adda to sing the “songs of the hen blackbird”, after that
they celebrate eating the most traditonal dishes of their villages (polenta
with sausages, typical cakes).

Harvest in England
Class 1 visited Acton Scott, a historic working farm to see the tools that farmers used long ago. We saw the ploughs and met the shire horse that pulls them.
We also saw a machine that was used to separate the wheat that was harvested.
We have used what we have learnt to make posters about Harvest festival past and present. They will be sent to you very soon. We hope you like them.
